Vegan, Kids & Special Menus

Our head chefs show off their creativity by running an extensive list of changing daily specials alongside our set menus. We’re proud to use the best local producers and suppliers and make the most of seasonal Kentish produce.

We happily cater for vegans, vegetarians and all dietary requirements. Please let us know when booking and we will ensure that you are well looked after. We readily cater for children and can prepare most dishes in half portions. Just ask!

We Love Local Produce

Incredible ingredients are an absolute necessity for delightful dishes. We’re almost spoiled for choice in the Garden of England, yet we still take time to source amazing produce from the very best local suppliers.

Our county is brimming with fantastic fisherman and farms, brewers, bakers and craft cider-makers. We scour the county for the finest produce that our talented chefs use in their dishes.

Our very own farmstead, Mill House, is very close to The Five Bells and you can see vineyards from the windows of the rooms at the front of the pub. We’re fortunate to be able to pick the very best from fields, farms and the sea.

Wonderful Walks from The Five Bells

Neighbouring North Downs villages include Stowting, Hastingleigh, Smeeth and Mersham. The public footpath opposite the pub will lead you through the beautiful Brabourne Vineyard, and just down the road you’ll find St Mary’s Place of Worship which offers lovely walks through the churchyard and surrounding fields and neighbouring farmlands.

Why not try one of our favourite picturesque walks? Venture into the North Downs and take in the views—you’ll find full details below…

"If you’re looking for a lovely place to have lunch, you can stop at the village’s award-winning pub The Five Bells Inn"

… Located on The Street, just a six minutes' walk from the church. It has been described on Tripadvisor as a “fantastic” place to eat and stay overnight.

The 16th century venue overlooks the rolling hills of the north down in east Brabourne. The quintessential English country pub features four gorgeous guest suites and has, in the past, been voted Kent Life Pub of the Year and Kent Pub of the Year in the National Pub Awards.

The menu offers a variety of vegan (V) and gluten-free (GF) options including its potato dumplings (V) for £17, its seasonal vegetable Goan curry (V and GF) for £17, its thyme-roasted duck breast for £26 and many more. It reads on its website: “Our head chefs show off their creativity by running an extensive list of changing daily specials alongside our set menus.

“We’re proud to use the best local producers and suppliers and make the most of seasonal Kentish produce.” One user, who visited The Five Bells Inn last month, said: “We booked in the afternoon and arrived that evening. The welcome we received was outstanding, warm and friendly.

“Our room was exceptional. We had dinner, which was beautiful - prawn tian, fish and duck for mains. We feel very lucky to have found this place and we will return.

“The pub itself is really lovely, log fires in the bar and the bedroom, plenty of hot water, nice touches in the room including port, lots of core pods and Bramley organic toiletries. The team working here are exceptional and make the pub and stay over special.”

"Its four rooms, however, are anything but typical. Each named after varieties of Kentish hops and grapes — Bacchus, Fuggle, Golding, and Ortega — they all dazzle with their own peculiar character."

On one hand this 16th-century watering hole — with a village location adjacent to the rolling North Downs — is the archetypal Kent country pub. Hops hang from the rafters; heavy timber tables are topped with empty bottles as ersatz candle holders and surrounded by mismatched chairs; steak night is on Wednesday; and real ale is on tap.

Its four rooms, however, are anything but typical. Each named after varieties of Kentish hops and grapes — Bacchus, Fuggle, Golding, and Ortega — they all dazzle with their own peculiar character. The attic room, Fuggle, mixes art deco furnishings with a beach-chic colour scheme, driftwood chandeliers, a freestanding bathtub, and intentionally wonky wall art, while offering views far across the Downs. Bacchus will make you goggle with ocular exhaustion, mixing leopard print with bare brick, funky wallpaper and a neoclassical bathroom. Golding is almost normal, with its grey-painted floorboards and mid-century modern style. And then Ortega pulps the rulebook, marrying industrial, art deco, mid-century, and contemporary designs, while its bathroom practically glows with a copper rolltop bath bouncing warm light against painted nudes.

"The Five Bells Inn, in the quiet Kent village of East Brabourne, surely boasts one of the prettiest approaches of any gastro pub in the southern counties. "
Steer a bucolic route down narrow country roads, over the rolling hills of the North Downs, and you’re met with a 16th century hostelry, its monochrome paintwork embellished with rows of cheery red and pink geraniums. The bar sets a foodie tone, with its deli-style display of local cheeses and hams – and a long list of local beers, wines and spirits, with a restaurant next door offering posh pub food.
"No Kent hotel wrap-up would be complete without the inclusion of a classic country pub and accommodation — and the Five Bells Inn delivers on both counts."

A 16th-century inn overlooking the Kentish downs, the Five Bells is the perfect destination for guests looking to lose themselves in the countryside.

With four rooms available, named after Kentish hops and grapes (Bacchus, Ortega, Golding and Fuggle), each includes a private bathroom and offers cosy and characterful decor including roll-top baths, bare beams, copper kettles and luxurious linen. Guests will also enjoy breakfast each morning, with a choice of full English or something lighter and fruity.

And, when lunch and dinner time rolls around, what better place to cosy up than in the pub itself? Serving quintessential pub food and drink, the Five Bells offers all the comfort and hospitality of a home away from home.

With over 200 Superb reviews on Booking.com, one guest praises its ‘Quiet location, friendly and relaxed staff, really lovely ambience and decor. Food was delicious.’
